2022 Match Play Tournament Details (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):

  • THE LOW 12 MONTH WHITE-TEE-COURSE INDEX FOR ALL PLAYERS WILL BE USED AND LOCKED FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE MATCH. (Should a player establish a new low 12 month index during the course of their advancement, then that new low 12 month index will be used and locked for the remainder of their tournament).

  • All players will play from the white tees.

  • This SINGLE ELIMINTION Match Play Tournament is entirely self scheduled. Players will have the following date windows to schedule their match against their opponent. Players should be open to the possibility that an opponent may request to play on a weekend or weekday. Any player that loses a match before round 5 is considered eliminated, and will not advance to the next round:

      • Round 1 windowMay 23 to June 26 (5 weeks)

      • Round 2 window: June 27 to July 31 (5 weeks)

      • Round 3 windowAugust 1 to August 28 (4 weeks)

      • Round 4 windowAugust 29 to September 25 (4 weeks)

      • Round 5 windowSeptember 26 to October 23 (4 weeks)

      • Finals and Consolation windowOctober 24 to November 27 (5 weeks)

  • Matches cannot be completed past the time windows. NO extensions will be granted. In the event that a match doesn’t get completed within the round time frame, either one player can reasonably concede to the other, or the Board of Director’s can make a decision. Please understand that the default decision will be disqualification for both players. But keep email records and/or text messages showing evidence of scheduling attempts and the Board of Director’s may make a decision for the advancement of a single player.

  • At the outset of the tournament, your email and cell number will be distributed to all the other people in your respective bracket.

  • Once a match has been played, the advancing player should email BOTH players in the next bracket immediately to let them know they are the next round’s participant. This is the advancing player’s duty, not the tournament committee’s, nor any Presidio employee’s duty.

  • Advancing players are absolutely allowed (and encouraged) to schedule their matches well before their next allotted round window, and be way ahead of schedule.

  • Be aware that if you keep winning and advancing, but then are unavailable to play a subsequent round (e.g., due to a preplanned month-long vacation), you may have to concede.

  • A one time $20 tournament prize fund fee will be charged to your card on file. The top 4 placements as well as the 5th place ties will receive gift card prizes.

  • Players are responsible for their green fees.

GENERAL RULES:

  • THE LOW 12 MONTH WHITE-TEE-COURSE INDEX FOR ALL PLAYERS WILL BE USED AND LOCKED FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE MATCH. (Should a player establish a new low 12 month index during the course of their advancement, then that new low 12 month index will be used and locked for the remainder of their tournament).

  • All players will play from the white tees.

  • Strokes are off of the lower handicap player. For example, if player A’s low 12 month course index is a 6 handicap, and player B's low 12 month index is a 12 handicap, player B gets 1 stroke from the 6 lowest handicap holes.

  • All 18 holes must be completed on the same day. Matches can not be completed with 9 holes played on one day, and 9 holes played on another day.

  • Failure to appear at the starting tee at your scheduled time shall result in disqualification.

  • A player can not play a practice round at Presidio earlier in the day on the same day of the match.

  • IF there is a tie after 18 holes, the pro shop and starter will know that this is a special match play event, and the players will be allowed to cut into the first tee as a twosome to continue a sudden death playoff. The participants must know that upon completion of the sudden death playoff, they MUST IMMEDIATELY depart the course and not continue their round.

  • Please email results to Dani O'Keefe at dokeefe@presidiogolf.com, HP at hp123@mac.com, and your defeated opponent.

  • Please post your own score to GHIN as a ‘HOME’ score, not a “competition” score.

THE DETAILED STUFF:

  • The USGA Rules of Golf for Match play will be in effect with the following local rule additions:

    • Local Rule E-5: This rule will be implemented as an alternative for OB or lost balls. Please see the following short and concise video explaining this 2 stroke penaltyhttps://youtu.be/QY2QNyFaqNs  It’s Important to note, as explained in the video, that you cannot use the local E-5 rule if you chose to hit a provisional.
      • Holes 1 thru 3 have red penalty area stakes on the left side of the course. If your ball has crossed and ended up within the red stakes, you do NOT have the option to use the local E-5 rule. You can only use penalty area (red stake) options. Please see the following quick and concise video explaining the penalty area (red stakes) options: https://youtu.be/5Puxb51tenM

    • Model Local Rule F-5: A player may take relief from immovable obstructions close to putting green (sprinkler heads, mower sensors, and drains) under the following conditions:
      • The immovable obstruction is the line of play, and is within two club-lengths of the putting green, AND within two club-lengths of your ball.
      • Your ball has come to rest on a closely mown area (otherwise known as the fairway, fringe, apron, or collar).
      • To take relief, players must find the nearest point of relief, then drop the ball within 1 club length, no closer to the hole.
      • To gain complete understanding of this rule, please see this quick video explaining this local rule and relief procedure: https://youtu.be/7jC6KYh1djk

    • Local Modified Covid Bunker Rules:
      • A player may take relief in a bunker if their ball has come to rest in a 'disturbed area'. A 'disturbed area' is caused by a previous player’s feet or club divots, that have not been raked, which includes the uneven mounds created by the foot print or divot.
      • To take relief, players can place the ball within 12 inches outside of the 'disturbed area', staying inside the bunker, no closer to the hole.
      • What are NOT grounds for free relief in bunkers:
        • Plugged lies, balls against the lip, ball tracks, and any other challenging bunker situations in any non 'disturbed area'

    • Modified Fallen Tree Local Rules:
      • Free relief is allowed when a players stance, swing, AND line of play is interfered by a fallen tree. Drop within 1 club length from the nearest point of full relief from the temporary fallen tree obstruction, no closer to the hole.
      • If the members of the foursome can reasonably assume that a struck ball ended up into/under a fallen tree, the ball is not deemed lost, and free relief is given. Drop within 1 club length from the nearest point of full relief from the temporary fallen tree obstruction, no closer to the hole.
      • The areas where the fallen trees have recently been removed may be damaged and will be considered “abnormal course conditions”. Drop within 1 club length from the nearest point of full relief from the “abnormal course conditions”, no closer to the hole.

  • Players should use the honor system for the 3 minute rule when searching for their potentially lost ball.

  • If the 2 match play players are playing with 2 other non tournament players, the 2 match players must declare to the other 2 players in the group on the first tee, that it’s an official club match play event, and to not give gimme putts, help with reads, or touch and lift the match play players' golf balls when needing to identify the ball.

  • In unusually wet or muddy conditions, before the round, the players can agree to some type of winter rules. If winter rules are used, the players should be specific about what type of winter rules are used. For example, lift clean and place, or lift clean and drop, and whether it applies to just the fairways or everywhere. If no agreement is reached on winter rules, the ball must be played down at all times, as per the rules of golf.

  • Imbedded balls are a possibility throughout the course. Relief from imbedded balls can only be taken from the ball’s own pitch mark upon initial landing. If the ball has bounced a few times and ends up in a depressed area, this is not considered imbedded. Please consult with your fellow golfers before picking up a ball that you deem imbedded.

  • Any ball inside the 2nd range fence on the first hole is considered OB. If you are inbounds, and the 2nd fence is in your line of play, you do not get free relief.

  • Most of you know that after 2019, the USGA made some changes and additions to the rules. All players are encouraged to view this concise and helpful video summarizing those 2019 rules changes: https://youtu.be/chPOtfLUHC0
